Friday Evening Ramblings
July 1st, 2005 by Northern FarmerToday was one of those days on the farm. Cows out in the nieghbor’s corn field can change plans rather quickly. Those smart old girls know how to work over a fence. Take note, another farming skill, fixing fence.
Just a few minutes ago I was sitting out in the yard watching the weekend traffic zooming by out on the county road and got to thinking, this is similar to our cows. The country folk were zooming east heading to the city where there must be some green grass in their opinion, and the city folk were zooming west. I don’t know what the attraction is every weekend that the country people have to go to the city, they must know something I don’t. I’m to tired to go anyhow, besides I was in town today, Pop. 300, to get some chew. First time in town for a week and a half. Got in , got out.
One important thing that got done around here today was making it official, I sent the Constitution Party a check. It’s one of the many things I’ve learned about since stumbling in to the world of blogs. In fact I might just keep this computer now with the Agrarian subjects, Reformed subjects, which are basically new to me, homesteading subjects, and just some honest, good people. Scott, on the blog Homesteader Life, perked my interest with his post on the flour mill today so I feel another project coming on for me.I’ll have to look into that because it would be an important step in self sufficiency. All the possibilities!
Time to go practice a little on the old five string banjo now and then hit the hay.

I wish our farms sat right next to each other! I think we would make good neighbors. Never learned to play any instruments, wish I had. My boys love to dance when ever they hear good banjo and fiddle music.

I’ve often thought the same thing Scott. What a combo we’d make as neighbors!
Really I’m not very good on the banjo yet, just had it for a few months. Makes the dogs howl though. Also testing the loyalty of my family. I do know some guitar, mandolin, accordian, and piano, so the banjo is progressing. For my families sake at least I’m not a beginer on bagpipes, although it has crossed my mind.
Those kids love to dance to some good fiddle and banjo music. Heck, even old stummble bum me gets going.
Thinking about sending daughter Rachel to take fiddle lessons at a convent close by. All the fiddlers say those nuns are good fiddle teachers, they have around 800 students at different levels learning fiddle. The “plan” is then Rachel can teach Dad.
