Quick Harvest Post

August 2nd, 2005 by Northern Farmer

We’re almost done with small grain harvest this evening and might finish up tommorrow. There’s rain in the forcast and that’s fine with me, I’d gladly take a day or two off of harvest and haymaking if there’d be a rain. Today was 95 degrees with high humidity and very little wind, the fourth day in a row. I just want to do a small post because of lack of time during this busy time. I wonder what modern society would think if they seen our farm family all working out in this heat. Daughter Rachel is with me almost every moment helping so much with a smile always on her face, I sometimes can’t believe it, how different than most kids a person sees. Everyone pitches in one way or another here and it’s a sight to behold. And sometimes when the heat is getting to me, to hear my daughter say,”come on Dad, lets keep going”, well it picks a person up to say the least. One thing for sure, Rachel’s dream is to have her own good horse and this dad is going to get her one soon.

What kind of horse are your thinking of getting her? What a cool dad.

    Hey Tom,

Your “quick” post brought a smile to my face. I have 5 daughters so far and the oldest is ten. We dream about the day when we are working side by side on the farm on a regular basis.
    Thanks.

She dreams of a Quarter Horse so I’m leaning that way, but you never know what pops up. The main thing is to get a good horse. We have a big Paint 3 year old right now that I haven’t trained yet, got him when he was smaller and never knew he’d get that big so we’re looking for a smaller model for Rachel. I’m thinking of harness training the Paint because he’s so tall it’s a long ways to fall to the ground.

Matt, Thanks and them daughters can be some good partners for you now and in the future. It’s just amazing when they tear into a job, sometimes I watch them, nothing short of amazed.
