A Chosen People

c. 1781. “Those who labour in the earth are the chosen people of God, if ever he had a chosen people, whose breasts he has made his peculiar deposit for substantial and genuine virtue. It is the focus in which he keeps alive that sacred fire, which otherwise might escape from the face of the earth.”

1787 Dec. 20. “I think our governments will remain virtuous for many centuries; as long as they are chiefly agricultural.” (TJ to James Madison, B.12.442)

1785 Aug. 23. “Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independant, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it’s liberty and interests by the most lasting bands.”

This past winter after studying the life of Thomas Jefferson I was surprised how he felt about the small independant farmer. I was never taught such a thing in school or anywhere else for that matter. In the history of mankind few equal Jefferson’s faith in the common man. And few have changed the way man thinks of government more than Jefferson. I copied down a few of his statements regarding the independant farming families that held this nation together so well in it’s earlier days. The rural family has always been the backbone of our nation, and as small of a percentage that it is today it still is a force that is very much alive. That’s why I believe the industrial monster is so hard at work trying to crush it out, because they know that this is the segment, small as it is, that could, and will someday overthrow it. It happened once before in our history during the election of 1800, some call it the Second American Revolution, when the moneychangers and industrialist were overthrown by the simple folk, the country folk. And these people that were overthrown have never forgotten it. Heck, I even run across it on the internet where some people hate Jefferson because of his God given faith in the farmer citizens.
Today the sides are the same, the trouble is the industrialist are a much larger segment, and their slaves that are held by the chains of debt vastly outnumber the Christian Agrarian farm families. And a huge number of the slaves march mindlessly to the drum of the culture of death.Society is doing everything possible to wipe out the small percentage of Christian Farmers and so far has been somewhat successful, either stomping them out or luring them away with promises of the life you “deserve”.

I think one of the driving forces in my life is to be a part of the downfall of the dark culture living around us. I see so many things lining up for a huge downfall to modern perverted culture. It might be rough but anything good always is in this world where darkness tries to rule. Every step we take on the farm has this in mind. To know we are doing the right thing is very uplifting for us. I might not see the end result of this conflict, but I firmly believe that my family line will in the future. My faith in our Lord can see no other way.

One of my favorite Jefferson quotes is this and I’ll jot it down again;
“Those who labor in the earth are the chosen people of God, if ever he had a chosen people, whose breasts he has made his peculiar deposit for for substantial and genuine virtue. It is the focus in which he keeps alive that sacred fire, which otherwise might escape from the face of the earth”.

    A man after my own heart, for sure! I feel the same way.

    Chad,

    Finding you blog a few short months ago was the shot in the arm that I needed. Very much to the point.It amazes me how out of touch with reality the modern industrialized world is. Keep it up!
