A Woodcutters Ramblings

October 24th, 2005 by Northern Farmer

Every week it gets a little cooler here, today was nice and cool with the air so fresh it was unbelievable. Spent the day getting ready to help neighbor Pete, combine his corn, and when everything was ready for tommorrow I went out in the woods alone and cut firewood for my parents wood furnace. Nothing like being alone, and it’s so quiet when the saw is shut off and a person is stacking wood and brush.Once in a while take a little walk around and inspect the woods. Hard to describe how much I love being out there sometimes. And when I get in for the evening the tired feeling is so satisfying.

It does bother me that this crazy society is in such a rush to destroy these farms around here. These family farms have preserved so much in this area that God created. I guess that’s not good enough for the mad society today. Just destroy every square inch that they can get there hands on. One only has to look at the huge amount of wildlife living in farm country to realize these family farms blended right in with the countryside. A wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. There’s a small lake in the hills west of here that was surrounded by a farm up until the three brothers that owned it all passed away. This past week, that lake that looks like it looked before white people came to this country, always preserved by the family, got all the land split up and sold by developers. And yet family farmers are made to feel like we’re destroying the earth. What can a person say? On our farm we have a beautiful creek running through it from one end to the other and I know we are being eyed up by that trash. “Moderns” have told us more than once that God wants people with huge homes enjoying our land. I kid you not! And our home is rather modest so it looks like we aren’t the Lord’s favored people. Amazing how things as “simple” as Christianity can become so distorted.

All I can say is,”over my dead body!” And people wonder why we changed churches finally. I can say as a family we sure are happy that we made the difficult move. In fact these next few months I will be going into intense study of God’s Word. This is pulling on me very much. I don’t know yet if it’ll effect this blog. I do enjoy it, blogging it, but we’ll see. This isn’t what you’d call a super religious site, just some simple hillbilly faith if you haven’t noticed. So, no, I’m not announcing a sabatical, you know, I never knew what that word meant until a few weeks ago, just shows my level of culture! I just thought I’d share a little of what is going on around here when we’re not getting in trouble on the farm. Besides, these agrarian bloggers are getting downright interesting lately. Got my head in a whirl.

That’s ok, until about 1995 I thought a sabatical was something about a tradition a Jewish Rabbi might perform on Saturdays. Lucky me a professor friend clued me in…….(grin)

Ya know simple hillbilly faith is the best kind of faith to have. It is like the mustard seed faith. Don’t underestimate the power of your words for Christ!!! Your are doing a mighty good work through this blog for Him. Don’t you dare do a sabbatical. I must hear about those chickens and aobut your move out of the church.

Scott, believe it or not it was always in the back of my mind that it was something Jewish.Never could figure it out why so many school teachers from around here wanted the local district to pay the bill for a couple of year Jewish experience in Europe. Now that I kinda know the meaning I figure a farmer’s sabatical is a few week stay in the hospital from a bull attack. Bout the only way to get em to take it easy :)
KsMM,thanks and don’t you fret, we’ll get them chickens figured out.

    Tom,
I must echo the KsMM, please don’t leave! I want to learn more about pigs and raising them and I am blessed each time I read your blog. I am excited about your pressing into the Word of God - I am sure nuggets of gold will end up in your blog to bless us all!

    TnFG,
Thanks, and I like what you’ve been up to over at your blog. I’m being led more and more to the old ways and it’s so good to find someone that knows about those subjects. I guess we all have our area’s of knowledge and it’s good to share with each other.
