Criminal Farmers or Patriots?

December 7th, 2005 by Northern Farmer

Warmed up today a bit, I think it got into the teens and felt darn near tropical working outside all day. We’re busy now separating calves into different groups and also tomorrow I want to separate out around fifty cows to spend the remainder of winter in a different lot that we have across the road. So far everyone being together has been OK but if the weather gets tough it’s better not having them in such large groups. They stay much healthier when given room. As it is now if we had an all out blizzard we wouldn’t have enough emergency shelter for the cow herd.

While working today I was thinking about many conversations I’ve had on the phone lately in response to a ground beef ad that I’ve got in the local paper. It’s rewarding to listen to customers, a person learns a lot. One thing almost everyone agrees on is that the present system is broke. Almost everything we’d like to do is illegal. And this has been bothering me a lot today. This is the most upside down country I have to think sometimes. Healthy food is illegal and the garbage in the stores is considered so good. Now I was wondering what the magic spell is that the government has that makes my beef unsafe to sell to any private person right off the farm but if we take the same meat and make some kind of dish with it we can take it to any public potluck and some kind of magic works it over and it’s deemed safe by the government. In my humble opinion, it’s absolutely none of the governments business what we sell to an adult willing customer. This really gets under my hide, let me tell you.

All over farm country are hardened criminals cutting their own meat for themselves and their customers. I know of many, right here. The countryside black market is booming. And all I can say is good! It’s pathetic that farmers and homesteaders have to resort to illegal means to sell their goods, but at the same time it shows the spirit of the people. Everyone knows it’s just because crooked politicians are accepting bribes from the huge meat packers and the multi national ag companies. There’s not even any debate on that! It’s pathetic that people that want affordable fresh food from the farm of their choice are restricted because of the prostitutes in government that sell their soul for the almighty dollar. Thomas Jefferson was more than right when he said this country needed a revolution every so often to rid the government of these, well lets just say criminals.

So what’s a country person supposed to do about this situation? Well, one way to look at it is, what would the founding fathers of this nation have done. Would they cow down to tyranny? I know that’s a strong word, but think a moment how many of our freedoms are eroding away. Steadily eroding and we just let it happen. As far as farming is concerned, it’s hitting at every angle. And I’m sure getting tired of it all. I’m tired of having to bow down to rules that are made to benefit a few in society, a very few. I’ve been in federally inspected beef processing plants, and chicken plants, and they’d gag a maggot. Plain and simple filth. And you should see the animals they slaughter, they’d end up on the brushpile here. We’d never think about shipping or selling animals in the condition so many do. Ever wonder why one of the biggest customers for on the farm meats are slaughter plant workers and USDA inspectors? Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. They know the condition meat comes out of them plants. They’re not going to eat that stuff. Or their families. But the big money keeps pouring into crooked politicians and the laws against farmers and homesteaders keep getting goofier and goofier. Ever notice now even the big food companies are going anti Christian? They want mindless drones out there to buy their crap.

But as I type, somewhere close by, someone’s cutting meat or making sausage. Providing a superior product to some customer. The farming underground is steadily at work defying the senseless lawmakers. They always have and always will. Even though they are breaking the law, one has to give them credit, they’re patriots. Unlike the lawmakers.

Well said! My husband and I couldn’t agree with you more. My husband’s mother (and now his aunt, our oldest son, and even my husband to a degree) have developed an allergy to beef and beef products. My mother-in-law’s is especially severe (life-threatening, in fact) - and up until about 5 or 6 years ago, she ate beef regularly. One has to wonder if all the “other things” that’s put in commercially salable beef and beef products contributed in any way to her condition. My money’s on an unqualified “yes”.
