Home Hatched Layers

April 29th, 2006 by Northern Farmer

This morning is rainy, chores are done, finally, I’m drying off in the house, so I figured I’d post a couple photos of some of our home grown layers. Time to reload the incubator.

    Tom,

How are you maintaining the correct humidity in the incubator? I have an incubator that looks a lot like the one you have. We are hoping to start hatching some eggs.

    Jim,
Mine is a no options incubator. A thirty soom dollar Mills Fleet jobby. In other words, hit and miss. I just keep water in the bottom all the time and it seemed to work out well. For my next batch now I’ve held back on the oyster shells for the hens, kinda thin down the shell a bit. Them last ones were thick, I had to help a half a dozen hatch on the final day after I seen them stuggling for hours. They did OK.
