A Little Update
June 23rd, 2006 by Northern FarmerWriting on here has been a little rare as of late, busy here cause tis the season and the family and the farm have top priority. So a little update is in order.
The word is dry and getting drier, some pastures are burning off but the first crop hay was the best, but I don’t think there will be a second crop unless the weather turns one of these days. The straggler cows are still calving, the way I figure it we have around 15 to go and they’ll be wrapped up for the year. The weasel/mink problem has been taken care of, and more recently, (Sunday evening), the fox problem was taken care of.
The second batch of chickens will be moving outside as soon as I have time to get them outside and the brooder will be reloaded again so we can catch up from the loss we took a few weeks ago. Garden is looking super good.
So, all in all things are normal around here. In between all the work we look forward to going to church twice a week and Praising the Lord with our church family, of coarse we do that on the farm too, can never get enough of that in. Well, suns coming up and time to get outside for another day!

We’ll be praying you guys get some rain. We were a little dry, so I mowed hay and fixed that problem
Our first cutting looks great this year too, thick as can be. Its taking forever to get it dried out.

Good morning, Tom,
We had about 1/2″ of rain, so things are perking up. Our 6-year-old just can’t wait for corn, but it will be a while! Mountain Fire Keeper brought over a bunch of cucumbers yesterday — it was great!

We’re extremely dry here, too, Tom. Got a shower just a few minutes ago–best we’ve had in weeks, but not enough to do much good. Pasture is stressed, and we’ve taken to watering the corn and tomatoes.

Janice.
And I hope yours was good too!
Scott,
Thank you from our family to yours. I know last year was your year to be dry so I’m glad to hear that your hay crop is heavy! Feels good, don’t it!
Lynn,
I’ve been watching on our radar what’s happening your way and was hoping you’d get a good one. Cucumbers already! Boy oh boy, you folks have a jump on us!
Mary Susan,
That’s the rains we get, some showers that don’t cut all the way down through the dust. One of these days, eh
