Tent Meetin Tonight
July 14th, 2006 by Northern FarmerYesterday evening we received 7/10s of an inch of rain, a very welcome rain to say the least. Not enough to get the pastures going but enough to pick up the corn again and it sure did pick up today, yee haw!! Now them big shot weather thinkers were yammering yesterday morning that there was almost no chance of rain for the next week and a half, but when I got up and it got light out there was a red sky in the east and anybody that’s not all to modern knows that that tells the weather better than some blow comb that never gets outside. I told the family I had a good feeling about it yesterday morning and the heck with what them modern folks have to say. Well, today the family thinks I’m good for more than just catching skunks, so another notch in the belt. Older and wiser, eh. Them modern thinkers just can’t seem to read the signs the Good Lord puts right in front of our noses.
I’d better get off of here now, we’re heading out the door to go to that Little Bible Beleivin Church in the Hills for some Gospel Bluegrass and some tent preachin. Hot out and that’s the best way, kind of an American type thing, hot summer nights preaching the Gospel under a tent, people all sweated up having a darn good time at it. So I’d better post this before they leave without me. Praise Jesus!

I hope you will write some more about your little church, I enjoy reading about it! A question, in your neighborhood do you still have the sense of community (working together, etc) that used to exist among midwestern farms?

Good day to you, Tom! Hope your tent meeting was a success, sweat and all. Your old-fashioned weather wisdom reminds me of the saying, “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.” Something like that anyway. I love reading the signs in nature that the Lord Himself designed. He gives us all good things for our benefit. I think the more bonded we are with Him, the more we aware we become. I’ve even noticed my chickens behaving differently when a storm is coming! Learning as I go and loving every minute of it! The Lord’s blessings to you!

Brent,
About existing sense of community in the neighborhood, I’d say there’s remnants of it , but not like it was. The reason is just like everything else, the worship of self in the modern world. Why help your neighbor when a person can watch TV or sit on the computer or whatever. And being hit with an onslot of “you deserve it”, “you, you, you,” every way we turn. He with the most toys, wins, etc.
But I will say with all honesty that I see the opposite at the “Little Bible Believing Church. There community is growing fast, just because they follow the “Word” and nothing else. Nothing humanly planned or church planned, it’s God planned because the folks are following the Word. Man planned or denomination plans mean nothing and always fails. That’s why we never see anything really get off the ground as far as community is concerned. Now every denomination figures they follow the Word, that is after deleting major portions of it and adding a multitude of man made isms and then wonder how come nothing ever happens, no works of God. Then they say that God is punishing us. They stray so far from the Word there’s nothing left. And God isn’t allowed to come into their lives. When they see folks that have God moving in their lives they get madder than wet hens and try to debate theology, always failing trying to tout up man made religion. Always preaching man made laws and downing the believer. They condemn healings, ( which by the way doesn’t mean to much to anyone that’s been divinely healed, believe me), they say we deserve sickness and all.
But we just follow the Word, and that’s what I sometimes write about here, and I’m so glad you enjoy it because I don’t know what people think when I do. Just simple folks, following the Word, God moving into their lives bigtime, and things happening that confuse the “wise and religious” just like the Word say it will.
Thanks! And I hope all is well over your way!
Emily,
And a good day to you too Emily! I’ll post about the tent meeting, it was great! Observing the signs that the Lord gave to anyone that would take the time to observe them is so interesting. And observing all the farm animals will tell a person alot about what’s happening with up and coming weather. There’s even some plants that act differently when there’s something ah brewing. All part of God’s great creation and plan.
God Bless!

Hi Tom!
The tent meeting sounds really nice. Our church doesn’t do that and I wish they would. We also would have greatly enjoyed the blugrass music. We are big fans of bluegrass and are hoping to one day have the kids perform with my husband. He plays the banjo and the guitar and our children are currently playing the piano and guitar with our oldest starting fiddle/violin lessons this fall.
Have a wonderful Lord’s Day!

Hello Karen!
As soon as I have more than a moment I’ll post about this past weekend, because it sure was special out here. Sounds like you have the makins for a good family bluegrass group. I know I’m going to put some effort in getting practiced up from now on, have to make some time. Thanks and God Bless you and your family!
