Next Year

August 6th, 2006 by Northern Farmer

Another Sunday come and gone here on the farm. I’m tired but satisfied about the way the week went and looking forward to the one to come. Of coarse it would be nice to get some more rain, but whatever. Today Good Farmer John and family came over for a, well let’s see, we’ll call it a garden harvest visit. Good folks, good food, good times and four new forty pound pigs on the farm here to boot. Life don’t get to much better than that.

I’ll be getting back to pace, I hope, with blogging this week if all goes well. It’s time to catch up with some rest and dream some dreams. Now what would a farmer like me be dreaming about some would ask? I think the answer is probably farming, you know, dreaming about rainy days and weather in the mid seventies. Dreaming about green grass, whatever that is. And dreaming about corn that grew so big and tall. Now I haven’t yet got putting my photos on the blog down pat yet, but I did figure out a way to put a dream on here. Of coarse dreams are in black and white so everyone knows this is the real thing. In farm country when your hit with a disaster like this dry spell a farmer always says, “next year”. Looks pretty good to me!

The corn I’ll take. I guess I’ll take the livestock too if you’ll do the worming and the AI……:)

Love your comments Brad. That is dreamin’ now. You just keep on dreamin’ and praying. You are right… next year will be better. By the way, did you take that picture in Texas? I hear EVERYTHING is bigger down there.

  4. Todd Mitchell Says:

Wow! I picked my corn WAY too early, I see. Figures — I’m a rookie.

thats the kind of dreams I like! We finally got some rain but the heat hasn’t gone away. The animals are drained. I keep giving fresh cold water to all of them and making sure they are in the shade but sure hope it breaks soon. Have a good week!

    P. S. if you still have some of the mountains of faith books I have someone that could really use one.

    Jan,
The day’s going pretty good all things considered. And I guess it don’t pay to dream small, eh. Have a good one !!!

    Brad,
What can I say! I’ll pass!

    Marci,
No, that’s a Minnesota dream, but I know them Texas ones are bigger. I think they only get one cob to a load, but I can’t imagine how big the hog would be!

    Todd,
Remember Todd, now this is free advice on how to act like a farmer, it’s always next year, next year…………
But it sound like that Granite Falls rookie is doing pretty darn good!

    Peggy,
I’ve been keeping track of you down your way and know what your talking about! And always remember, water is the cheapest and most important feed, but sounds like you got that down pat!
About “Mountain Moving Faith”, I’ve some on hand and would be more than happy to send one down your way, that’s why they’re here! I’ll e-mail you this evening, gotta get back outside and dig holes, builds caracter!

    Hey Jan,
I just missed you this morning, I go outside around six AM. It’s kinda neat that there’s a few of us on the blog just before the six AM hour. The early birds! Hope your day was good!!

    hey Tom,
4:00 AM, every morn, have to get my husband off to work by 5:00am,
I use to be a night owl, but not anymore! I love to watch the sun come up :) not a bad day, but a very hot day! how about you?

    Jan,
That’s earlier than me! I get up at 4:30 every morning, seven days a week, but once in a while earlier, not to often though. Morning is my favorite time of the day, even in this drought it tries to be green at that time of the day. Then all life just pulls back around later morning. To tell you the truth, our weather would be perfect today if it wasn’t so dry. The day itself was about as nice as they get. Take care!
