A Short One
August 22nd, 2006 by Northern FarmerThis summer is sure moving fast because I’m not even sick of it yet. In fact it’s rather enjoyable even being in a major drought zone according to the Weather Services Drought Monitor. Now by the looks of that map, everyone that comments here and says that they’re in a drought, sure are. Kinda a fraternity! The dry ones. But it is greening up here and they’re talking a good chance of rain come late night and tomorrow morning. The soil is still in big need of a true soaking though.
Tomorrow evening we’ll be going to our usual Wednesday evening church service but this time it’ll be closer to home on the shores of a beautiful lake, if I must say so. We’re having a baptism service out there. There’s a perfect beach and it’s on private property. The lake is surrounded by beautiful wooded hills of oak, maple, ash and a multitude of other trees. We all are excited about heading out there. I feel a story coming from this one.
One more note of interest, well, to me anyhow. I was reading a book by Pastor Rod Parsley out Columbus, Ohio way. One thing jumped out at me big time and shook me a bit. Not that I didn’t know this, but to see it in a book, whew! These aren’t exact words but I don’t feel like going upstairs and finding the correct book, that could take a while with all the books Pastor Josh dropped off here last evening. Rod Parsley stated that when a nation turns away from God one of the first blessings lost is agriculture. See why it sparked my interest? He goes on with examples, but I’ll just leave it at that.
This is no surprise to anyone that has eyes to see and ears to hear. I won’t even go on with this. I just wanted to drop that in here. Time to kick back and enjoy life a bit out here. Been getting a bit rough here lately

Pastor Parsley is an amazing man. He is very popular but very humble. Really in tuned to who GOD is and who Rod parsley would be with out Him. He uses the wisdom and knowlage the Lord gave him. What is the name of the book ?

Morning Tom,
The baptism scene reminded me of one of the stories from last weekends service. Seems about 50 years ago, the new deacons had to go into hurricane creek to do the baptisms. Well this deacon was performing the ceremony when the preacher said “Watch out for that cottonmouth coming at you brother”. Well the deacon, was all set to skedaddle, and the precher told him “keep doing what he was doing, and he’d take care of that snake”. The deacon says he did the fastest baptisms in the south that day, and got out of there as quick as possible.
A little rain yesterday, every little bit helps.
Enjoy tonight,
Brad

I’d certainly have to agree with the pastor’s observation. Aside from my Christian Agrarian friends, the folks I know are so far removed from agriculture (and good nutrition) that they don’t even recognize some vegetables, much less grow any. Sounds like an interesting book. I may have to pick one up.
We attempt to homestead in middle TN and keep a blog, too- http://www.blessedacresfarm.com .
I’ll be back to read more soon. Thanks for keeping this blog for the education and enjoyment of others.

Hey Jan,
It’s ah going pretty decent so far! Just came in for a quick cup of coffee to give me a lift after getting to bed a bit later than normal. More on that sometime soon I hope!
God Bless!
Laura,
Thanks for the comment, this evening when I can go upstairs, in other words when I’m cleaned up a bit I’ll find the books and post the titles.
I like your blog and will have to come back to it and spend a little more time, thanks for letting me know, because I didn’t know about it. Lookin Good!
Thanks and God Bless!

Mornin,
Started a new book last night. Have you ever read “The Cotton Patch Gospels”? So far its pretty interesting. I’m having a hard time just reading it and not trying to interpret it though.
We’re going through a cool spell right now. Its nice to have the morning temps in the 60’s again. Funny how the forst cool morning will get you thinking. I’m starting to think about cleaning out the chimney on the woodstove, even thoug we’re probably 2-1/2 months from having to use it.
Have a GREAT day,
Brad

Hello Jan,
Wow, I’m replying to a Good Morning in the evening, eh! All is well and we received two and a half inches of rain yesterday. Finally the dust got cut, YEE HAW!! Thank You Lord!
Brad,
Evening, hmmm, never heard of that book but let me know if it is a good one when you finish up with it.
I’ll let you in on a little secret, I’ve been wearing long johns the last two mornings. I just hate shivering so a guy has to do what he has to do! But it sure beats that blasting heat and drought. Have a good one!!
And back to Patti,
I haven’t had time to pin down which book it’s in, but it’s in one of these five that I’m reading now. They are;
Your Way Out
Free At Last
God’s Got You Covered
Silent No More
Preparing for the Glory, Living Leaven Free
When the day comes that I do find out for sure which one it’s in I’ll let you know. Take care!
Tom
