Back For A Bit
August 31st, 2006 by Northern FarmerIn my last post I was mentioning our work load here for the next couple of weeks and now to add to that we’re tearing off the shingles on our house and re shingling. I’d like to say that it keeps a person in shape, but I don’t know, I’ve got some muscles sore that I didn’t even know I had. Oh well, a couple more days of that, then off to chopping silage till that job gets done. After that I hope that the rest of the season will be a bit calmer here.
I’m so far behind on this clunk of a computer, although I will admit, it sure is a fast clunk nowadays, I don’t know where to begin to catch up. But I will before winter, I think. Now, I could rant, but I’m too sore to sustain a good long rant. Besides, there’s been a fair share of that here the past few weeks. I could brag up how good our calves are doing, how our turkeys are growing, how our hogs are, well, being hogs. But naw, heck with it. People will think I’m bragging, and tell me so too. Hmmm. What’s a worthless blogger supposed to do?
I’ve been thinking about a subject that has always been on my mind, and from time to time I’ve touched on it. It about how folks used to help one another out here in the country. I’m lucky enough to remember when they did, it sure is different than now. Most people are totally living alone as far as work getting done. No matter what the job, it has to be hired, no matter what. Years ago there was always someone in the community that had the skill a person needed if that person didn’t have the skill or the manpower to do the job themselves. So many jobs were shared as community jobs also. My Dad was just telling us the other day about grain threshing years ago and how “every†farm pitched in a wagon and a team and a worker or two through the whole harvest, going from farm to farm until the work was all done. If the farmer himself couldn’t make it, he could have representatives, a hired worker, or a couple of his kids, whatever, just so that wagon and team and workers were there doing their fair share. And they had to be there. Nobody questioned it, it was just the right thing to do. There was no television to rush back home to or any of the other gizmos that distract a person and destroy a family. Yes, destroy a family! They had get-togethers for any and all reasons back then and everyone looked forward to them, young and old.
Oh how wonderful that would be, to be that way again in society. You know, out in the country there was very little crime, and if you take bootlegging out of the equation, crime was almost non existent. Oh there were problems, but the shadow of evil wasn’t quite so dark. I used to read the Bible years ago, when I was going to the modern church, and always was reading about Jesus casting out demons. I wondered how come there ain’t any of them today, because the modern church never, ever mentions them. Must have been something them oldtimers only had, we’re too sophisticated nowadays. A demon don’t have a chance with such a smart society and educated church folks. Well, that’s what it adds up to!
Oh, I’m close to a rant, but I’ll hold my breath yet tonight. I just got a paper in the mail today, “Pro Family Newsâ€, a Minnesota paper. And the headline, “Corporations, Churches and Children Prominent at Gay Pride Festivalâ€. Now these churches weren’t there protesting, they were endorsing. Last night I was reading a book by Rod Parsley and he was talking about a person Washed by the Blood having all authority over demons. Just that most folks don’t know about it or their churches are on the demons side and won’t teach it. The book goes on to say that the most powerful demon is the one that is in charge of homosexuality; in fact all other demons flee from its presence. Now that’s interesting, and today to read of churches endorsing it, well what can I say. And more and more churches are, the television openly endorses a lifestyle that will kill anyone that accepts it. And they call it good. I’m just touching on this, just a little bit. With all the things that I see on the horizon, this is what I think is at the core of everything. From corporate madness, political corruption, you name it. This is the greatest reason for getting away from any distraction in society today.
Now I know folks don’t like to even think about it, but it’s true none the less. And every day people are getting more and more numb to it, and soon end up calling it good, just like the murdering of thousands of unborn babies every day in this country, doesn’t affect this population much any more. Even figure it’s a right.
But that’s all for another day around here. One thing I like is the fact that so many folks are waking up to it all. It won’t be a majority, but it’ll be a powerful force none the less. You know, there’s a powerful amount of evil building, bigtime, like never before in history. It bothers me allot, but I must fix my eyes on the Cross, no matter what. Throw away any TV connection, stay out of anything that the world uses for furthering the purpose of hell. Get looked at as a nut by regular folks. Get laughed at and scorned by the wise. But stay focused, if I fall a hundred times a day, get back up, don’t look to the right or left, don’t look back, just keep on racing to the Cross.

So true So true.. we as a nation are becoming so passive to evil! If you need some foder for a good rant, I could mail you a copy of our local Farm Bureau newpaper. A friend signed us up for six weeks.. free…yip-e.
I have learned sooooooo much…like what an animal unit is…that anyone with a farm mentality would love to have a 2400 unit hog confinement right next door and enviromentalists are just wackos..I better stop or I’ll be smooth into a full blown rant and I’ll save that for my blog.

Patti,
I know what your talking about and if you want to rant away here, have at it. What you mentioned is my daily dose of big ag that I get too. All the time. You wouldn’t believe the stack of papers down here that I received just in the last week or two, all big ag propaganda. No need to mail me any more than I have.
One thing, there’s not one thing that they say that can’t be shown for the lie that it is. They’re easy to tear into, easy to debate. They’re so wrong, so deep into the culture of death, that it’s almost laughable if they weren’t destroying so much. Someday they will implode! You can count on it!
Thanks!

It is true. The thing is that most church’s have gotten away from the truth’s of the bible. They are worried about numbers and not the word. They are affraid to speak the truth because they might offend someone. If we look at Jesus and his ministry. He never backed down from anything. He said whatever needed to be said. He didn’t care what people might say. Back then sin was sin. Now sin is something that can be changed or overlooked. We need to get back to the basic’s of the bible. Well I better go before I take up a page. Remember Tom you’re only as old as you feel. Have a good one.

PJ,
Thanks and how true! Get away from the Word and you get what’s left, hell.
Patti,

Godwin,
You have a blessed weekend over your way! And I agree with you, nothing has more power to transform people, churches and nations than the Word!

Great post! People have forgotten that sin is sin, no matter how you look at it.
A family member (FM) called me the other day, to tell me that my step-sister “came out of the closet” and announced she was homosexual and living with her partner. FM then proceeds to tell me that they’d met the partner and she’s a really nice girl, polite and dresses well and even wears lipstick!! FM invited me to come visit for the next holiday season, and stated that my step-sister and her partner would be there too so I can meet her! I told the FM I wouldn’t be attending. FM asked why and I explained that its wrong to accept it, its wrong to promote it- its just plain wrong! FM didn’t see it that way, and FM professes to be a Christian. (But then again, FM didn’t see anything wrong in having female priests in the church, or female homosexual priests in the church!). FM said I was being too hard on them- they were happy with each other! Like God really excuses sin because they are happy! To any argument, my reply was, “What does the bible say about it?” Eventually, the FM just stopped the conversation cause they weren’t getting anywhere with me!
Now back to community help… You’re right- we’ve lost the sense of community and community help! I won’t brag, but I’ve seen community come together in our little church. I’ve never seen people come together and help each other as I have in this church. Whether it’s repairing plumbing, helping with a newborn, fixing meals, moving homes, repairing the lawn mower, there’s always someone offering their help. One can get quite spoiled! But it’s also taught me to be less independent, and more dependent on them. So much so, that when the neighbor (also the church pastor) announces that they will be moving, it sent me into panic- how am I going to fare without them! I trust and know God will provide, and moving doesn’t necessarily mean the help will stop- but it sure was convenient having it next door!
And changing the subject completely, I’m going to post a request for opinions about tilling vs no-tilling and would really appreciate your input… if you wouldn’t mind!
Blessings to you and your family.

Hey Jan,
Have a good one!
Well, this is later
God Bless!
Christine,
Wow, that was some comment, thanks so much! Unbelievable how evil is taking over in so many churches and considered “good”. I was thinking on all that today and come to the conclusion that no matter what a church says, God hates homosexuality. And does act on it as He did on Sodom. And it’s going to get much, much worse with TV glorifying it, the schools praising it, pushing it in the work place or should I say demanding it. We have to keep focused on the Cross through all this, staying deep in the Word. It’s not a denominational thing, it’s creeping in, or should I say, charging in everywhere. The general population is being dumbed down, the luke warm christians gradually will accept it, but Christ’s Church will stay focused on Him. Sometimes it depresses me, but then I think what a privilage to serve the Lord in these times to come, wow! Preach that Gospel, never stop!
That’s so good to hear about your church community, and I mean it! I see the same here and you know, I believe that comes as a result of folks following the Lord, in fact it can be no other way when a person does. That’s one of the first signs of a believer, helping others. Sometimes I do wonder when folks are up at an alter call and are supposedly born again, then go on living the same old way as before, me, me, me! That does make me wonder.
I’ll scoot over to your blog and see what’s up. Thanks and God Bless!

Hi Peggy!
Thanks and great comments!! There’s power in the Word, in fact nothing has more power so lets ah keep preaching it!! If it makes folk uncomfortable so be it. That’s called conviction. And it’s what we’re comanded to do, so… let’s do it!
You have a great weekend down there, I haven’t been keeping track of anything this week and just found out today there was a storm out east. But you posted so I know your still around
Take care and God Bless!

Hi Tom,
I have to say that the community spirit isn’t totally gone, even if it may be absent at times. Last Sunday afternoon we had a group of our friends willingly help with getting 2 walls up on the main floor of our house, and out of the blue a neighbor to a friend of ours called to see if we wanted to borrow his hydraulic lift! What a blessing that has been! He even brought it over himself, and stayed to help hoist the walls! Then this weekend (if the trusses that were supposed to be here by 9/1 actually show up) a group of homeschooling families are coming from around the state to set the trusses in place. It’s unbelievable how God has blessed us. There are also people up here in the other camp; we have lived up here 2 years on 8/31, and I have yet to meet 3 of our “neighbors” on our road — and it’s only 2 miles long!

Lynn,
The pattern that you describe I also see. I think it’s people that are following the Lord that are led to help each other out. Now that’s something that modern society doesn’t like all to much. But then again, who cares what modern society thinks.
The biggest draw back of this blogging on the internet is how so many folks are so far away and we can’t help each other with our own labor. But the good outweighs the bad as far as blogging, because so many folks lift each other up. Praise Jesus for that!!
Take Care and God Bless!
