A Quick Note

October 5th, 2006 by Northern Farmer

Moving hay home, that time of the year again. Gotta get it home in case we ever have a winter like the “old days” again. If that would be the case I don’t need bales scattered about here and there along drifted up fence lines and such. Much easier to move them on sunny days with temps around sixty. My kind of weather! Winter’s ok, as long as a person is prepared for it all.

Life goes on here, I haven’t been blogging to often, I would like to but just haven’t been able to get around to it very much. As with any family business or farm when someone goes down it affects everyone around. This week we’ve had a few problems and I have to pick up the slack around here. But it’s going OK, just a tad bit busier, that’s all.

I’ll try to pick up again here shortly, I’m not taking a break as far as I know, just have to do a bunch of stuff and keep this place running and all that. God is Good!

I remember as a kid helping my dad put up hay in stacks (didn’t have a baler). We used 2 big Morgan horses named Prince and Beauty to do the work. I remember working with no shirt on and the sweat just making the hay stick to me. I had a blast doing it, but it was sure work for a kid. Amazing memories your blog brings to me. Thanks Tom.

Don’t worry about it, that’s the way I was writing, you should of seen the spell checker light up :) Got the carbon out of that program working it so hard! Thanks!

    John,
Oh, Oh, you just touched on one of my “favorite” subjects. Working with horses! That’s all it takes sometimes to get me going, a comment that sparks interest. To bad it’s about time for me to hit the hay, can’t waste that precious time! Thanks!

    Morning Sir,
GO Man GO!!!! I know the tying up loose ends thing. I’ve got so many ends at my feet, I don’t know where to start. I know not of this winter of which you speak….. You mean there is snow or sumthin??
Worked on the barn yesterday. I’m figuring I’ll have the new half done about the time those pesky splinter chokers decide to relevel the noth side.
Going up to the north country tomorrow to see grandpa. He’s a 92 year old carpenter retired in Michigan.. I always look forward to seeing him. Just don’t do it enough…..
    Have a GREAT weekend,
    Brad

    Brad,
I’m ah GOING! Up half the night, just fell back asleep and time to get up to 250 head of cattle that want my head :)
Last evening the turkeys escaped, had me wondering how they did it till I figured they just opened the barn door, they’re big enough. So now I have a small log leaning against the door, another permanent fixture on the place! But them turkeys escape was foiled because when I found them in the backyard they all followed me back to and into the barn. Gotta like them birds!
When your up north just breath that cool air in, it’s good for what ails you! Have a safe and Blessed trip!

    Tom

    Oh, by the way Brad,
North country stuff here. I mean snow or sumthin….. Now as if there ain’t enough to do here, we got a bull moose running around ripping out fences and causing all sorts of mischief. Hmmm, mooseburgers…………, gotta get the rest of them chickens delivered so we have some room in the freezers, eh.

Here in Montana , just outside our bed and breakfast, we’ve had two cattle drives, and one mountain lion sighting and a greenhouse struck by lightening… this week. Wouldnt trade this life for the hectic California EVER. thank you G-d
