Bad Apples
November 20th, 2006 by Jim VIn Northern Farmer’s previous post, he talked about how we can enslave ourselves for Medical insurance. My off-farm job is with a health insurance company and I see plenty of things that I don’t like at this company. They promote the sodomite lifestyle, allowing employees to get insurance for same sex “domestic partnersâ€, as they call them. They allow the internal advertisement of “gay and lesbian eventsâ€, but will not allow advertisement of an employee conducted Bible Study. They promote political agendas that are ungodly. They dictate what healthcare a person can get, and would never dream of paying for nutritional or herbal treatments. As far as I am concerned the health insurance system is badly flawed. I know of a church whose members chip in to pay each other’s medical costs. The last that I had heard about this church was that the money contributed for the medical costs of members was less than medical insurance would have cost, even at a time when some members had major medical bills.
I can think of other ways that we look to the government and corporations to protect us. Our society looks to the USDA and the FDA to ensure the safety of our food supply. The USDA and FDA never make mistakes like normal people nor do they accept bribes- right? We have a neighbor who gets blemished apples from a local orchard. They have crates and crates of these seconds. Most of these apples are beautiful looking and the reason they can’t be sold is that they have either a small bruise or a small break in the skin. The neighbors are feeding them to their pigs. I was admiring some of these apples, which were about the size of a softball, when it occurred to me to ask how they got them to grow so big. The answer was that when the apples are small they reduce the number of apples on a tree, either by mechanically cutting some off or by chemically treating the tree. When they chemically treat the tree, it partially withers, causing some apples to drop off. Hmm … they semi-poison the tree and they claim this apple is now safe to eat? But the government agencies would never make a mistake when they approved this chemical, would they? The government also maintains the safety of our milk supply - doesn’t it? TnFarmgirl has a post describing what she saw when she and her family visited a number of cow dairies. She definitely did not like what she saw. About a year ago I took my wife’s niece to visit a local confinement dairy, where 700 cows are milked three times a day. I think after that experience she will always at least think twice about buying milk from the store. We watched as someone from the third world milked Holsteins, all with their tails docked, placing the inflations onto teats that were still covered with some sort of blue teat dip, which was obviously going to end up in the milk.
It is time for us to look to the Lord first, rather than to so-called experts, corporations and government agencies.

Good post Jim, you spoke the truth, which is not very popular today. The answer to most of the disturbing things we see today (both in farming and other areas of life) boils down to the limitless pusuit of money. People (and companies) seem unable to stop in their pursuit of the green stuff and will say, do and allow anything to satisfy that pursuit no matter how low, immoral or harmful to others those money grubbing actions are.

A stark example of what I’ve known for a long time, but you brought it home. You cannot count on government or corporations to look out for your health, well being… they are too much into their own bottom line.
Again a reminder and strengthened resolve for both independence and trust in the L-rd’s providence

We have been disgusted with what’s been happening in the health care system, and have seen the benefit of searching out and working with natural remedies for health issues. It’s been hard for me to hear my parents basically say, “If it doesn’t come from a prescription, it’s no good.” It’s been a very big step for me to learn to rely on the Lord instead of health insurance. It’s amazing how many trips to the doctor have been eliminated by searching out information for ourselves.

The government was set up to represent us, not control us. Instead, we can’t build a house, drive a car, hunt a deer, build a fire, and a million other things without their permission; and we have to pay them for their permission. Somehow, we have created a monster. There may be individual integrity but as a whole the “government” is as crooked as a dog’s hind leg. Why would we trust anything they say?
Good post!

We are fulltime farmer/homesteaders and have ended up dumping health ins. We instead, have been participating in Samaritan Ministries. This is not health ins, but rather a group of Christians who covenant together and agree to help pay for each others medical bills. Every month we send someone that needs it, $248 (it would be less for single folks—this is for our whole family). If we have a large bill we can’t pay, people from all over the country send us checks to help pay for it. It works very well.
