Ye Rich Men

January 28th, 2007 by Northern Farmer

Boy, the way it’s going around here on the old blog I’d bet I could quietly slip off into oblivion and nobody’s the wiser! Which is all right with me! Some good posting around here from all the authors, who’da ever thunk! This thing is working better than imagined! But just for old times sake I figure I should post something, hmmm….

I won’t do Authentic Ag cause I might single handedly derail the whole shebang, it’s been know to happen before in blogdom when I get involved with someone else stuff. No, better lay low on that. Better not step on Jim or Nathan’s subjects cause Jim brings me up that good Jersey milk when he comes up this way and I don’t want to stop the flow of that! Good stuff! No, I’d better just stick to my own stuff whatever that is so as not to totally destroy the good works of others here.

But darn, it’s hard to write on Sunday evenings cause I’m all calm then, probably the only night of the week I’m not on the warpath. All mellow from a day at church and all that. Not quite up to calling down fire on big ag and the corrupt system we have today. But it sure would be a good feeling to call some fire down, man I sometimes just wish… But in the end it will happen anyhow, so that’s some comfort, well really it’s allot of comfort knowing it’ll all come tumbling down. Now the Book of James is really one of my favorites cause he doesn’t hold back any punches. Now I don’t know about anyone else, but these verses always got to me. And in my humble opinion it sure does cover big ag’s actions in the world today. I know it covers everything in society, but just bear with me and dwell on it.

5:1: Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
5:2: Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
5:3: Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
5:4: Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5:5: Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
5:6: Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
5:7: Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
5:8: Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh

Whew! Now a person could dwell on this the rest of their lives there’s so much in it. But it give a lot of hope for the person tending the land, worshipping our Lord, and doing what’s right in the eyes of the Lord. I often wonder if the bigshot executives who’s only job is to figure how to squeeze every last dime from an honest, hard working farmer can sleep at night. I wonder what it’s like to wake up in the morning and figure out how we’re going to dupe the consumer into buying this poisoned up product at the highest price possible, cutting corners by adding different additives for the sake of more profits, nothing more, nothing less! I wonder what it’s like to wake up in the morning and spend the day figuring out how to patent plants and animals so the company that this person is working for can please a few super rich top dogs and the rest of humanity be damned. I really wonder! I wonder why profits are more important than a whole society being hormoned up so the grade school children have bodies similar to the Green Bay Packers defensive line. When I was in school we were all small in comparison to today’s average child. And I wonder what it’s like to know the health problems that generation will have shortly because of that hormone induced growth, knees going out in their thirties, hips shot, different organs not properly functioning in years to come. I really do wonder.

And on the radio this week I was listening to a dairy show, now I don’t dairy so I’m not claiming to be a dairy expert but common sense does prevail even if we don’t dairy. Those corporate folks were trying to tell the dairy farmer audience that real milk, traditional milk has the hormones in it. The way they said it, them cows must have been getting Monsanto’s hormones since being on the ark with old Noah. And anyone that even questions it is a fanatic, a PETA person. Don’t matter if you’re a family dairy farmer, if you don’t bow down and worship Monsanto your classified as a PETA fanatic. Now, that’s what big ag is telling farmers on the program! You heard me, I listen to this stuff all the time, the entertainment value cannot be bought at any kind of entertainment establishment. But you know, big ag is really on the defensive and I mean it! I hear Starbucks is the largest buyer of dairy products in this country and they’ve now demanded to have milk without the Monsanto hormone. Praise God!! Money talks! Now big ag isn’t taking this lying down. They’ve repeatedly paid politicians bribes to legislate that folks cannot advertise that their milk is hormone free, they want to legislate the deception.

But ye rich men, there’s one thing for sure, your time is coming. It’s promised in the Bible and if it’s promised by the Creator of the universe, well it’s good enough for me, I believe it! All that money won’t do a plug nickels worth of good when you see a junky prostitute that called out to God as she was dying cradled in God’s arms while the rich are condemned to eternal damnation. And millions of starving folks from around the world, millions of persecuted believers from other countries forced into slave labor to satisfy your corporate desires become crowned in Heaven while the rich are thrown away. Oh God, thank you for your Gospel! It’s so upside down from the world. So, so upside down. The rich, the proud, the powerful can’t understand it. But the simple folks wait it joy for the fulfillment of that Blessed Hope! And it’s coming!

    Tom,

Don’t worry about stopping the flow of milk to you. Too bad I am not closer, we could get more to you. There are times where we have gallons of extra that goes to chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, and whatever critter will drink it. Salatins were buying milk from a farmer, but now with Nathan’s jersey cow they are realizing the difference when you drink authentic milk, instead of milk from Holsteins who have been bred to give diluted milk.

James 5:7, which you quoted says “Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.” Seems that conventional ag has forgotten that they need to patiently wait; wait for things to grow normally, wait for animals to grow, wait for God to send rain, and using the timetables that God set. Instead we want everything on our own schedule, using rumensin to make cattle fatten faster, breeding crops that produce lots of bulk but no nutrition, borrowing money so that we can get “rich” quick instead of building things over generations, etc. I am not good at waiting, but need to learn.

Bravo Tom! And did I say Amen? A friend of mine down here is raising beef on his small farm and is being torn between grass fed and grain. He read in a beef pubilcation that “tests” have concluded that there is no significant difference in nutrition between grass fed beef and feed lot, grain fed beef. Hmmf. I’m not even a farmer (yet:o), but like you said… common sense says otherwise. The wicked’s time is coming, and just stand by!

Thanks for continuing your blog. You are all an encouragement to non-farmer wannabes like me.

I grew up drinking raw milk from a herd of Holsteins and there was plenty of cream in that milk. When we would go to get milk out of the tank we had to turn the churn on so we could get to the milk under the cream. After we got the milk ,usually in a 1.5 gal. milk can, my mom would let it sit to skim the cream off. The top third was solid thick cream. After skimming that off she let it sit some more and got another 2 inches of cream off. The milk that was left was poured into a pitcher to put in the fridge and we had to stir it before pouring a glass or we would get a glass of cream.

    Hi Tom!

Powerful words and a powerful message to those who covet material possessions and authority over their fellow man. The Bible makes it very clear in numberous places that we need to be meek and humble of heart and ‘love our neighbor as we love ourselves”.

All people have been warned. A time of judgement for us all awaits God’s time. Personally, I have far less patience than God. I’m amazed that fire or other calamities have not already rained down on all that seek self-centered gain thru the pain and suffering of their fellow neighbors on this Earth.

But the writing is on the wall for those who have eyes to see. Those dark clouds are coming ever closer!

Thank-you my friend for having the personal courage to speak truth to power! Your example has encouraged me to speak up as well. Before that, for years, Ive tried really hard to ‘fly below the radar’ and not draw attention to myself from ‘the powers that be’.

We had blizzard conditions for a few hours on Friday night–strong winds. Since then, we have received a few inches of light, fluffy snow. Tomorrow they forecast continued snow and strong winds.

Could be interesting! Time to stay home close to the woodstove!

Best wishes and may God bless!

Man Tom, I’d hate to see you when you are all wound up!! :) I can see the calming inflluences these Sunday evenings have on ya…….

Your words have a lot of truth. The comments have truth too. If I was any count at quoting scripture, I’d be right in there with y’all. Since I’m not, I’ll just have to sit back and say “yep, they’re right!”

Kinda cool here this morning (13 degrees). Put some old scavenged weighted wooden windows in the farmhouse this weekend…. twice…. My wife didn’t want that old multi-colored sailing cord in the sash tied to the weights. A smarter man, might have thought about that before he redid the ropes….

Last weekend on the house though. This week starts corral building for the ……sigh…… cattle. Y’all sounded like you were having too much fun, and I was missing out on it with just the goats and chickens, so I’ve got some calfs coming in two weeks. Better get hoppin’

Anyway, a great post. I think I’m rich beyond imagination. I’ve got the love of a good woman, the Lord by my side, and a couple of teenagers that might just make it…… I can’t imagine what more that money could bring…

    Have a GREAT day,

    Brad

    Jim,
Well I do worry about never getting any of that Jersey milk again! Got me spoiled after tasting the milk you all brought up that time!
Conventional ag is not sustaining and that says allot! When ever something can’t sustain itself it dies. A rule of life. You know, sometimes I just hate to blog because when I look over the whole situation it’s much worse than people realize. Plus being labeled a nutcase doesn’t help matters all that much either. Thanks!

    Matt,
I know what’s going through the mind of your friend, it’s very hard not listening to the way culture wants us to go. And when faced with all the misinformation provided, overwhelmed really, I can see where he’s wondering. The “industry” is lying to put it bluntly! I hope he goes the common sense route! Thanks!

    Patti,
The Holsteins of years ago were an entirely different animal than they are today. They’re breed for one purpose, large volumes of milk in an industrial setting. They ain’t like old bossy when we was growing up! Remember when the cows were older than we were and we were teenagers! Now the Holstein has an average life of 1.9 lactations before it’s driven into the ground by hormone stimulated over production. Good point.

    Steven,
You and me think on the same page so much it’s scary :) Not really, it’s just that we’ve had our eyes opened to the Word of God. It’s all in there, everything’s in there. No need to change anything from thet Book. Even though many try.
Windy and cold here today, ground’s still brown, no snow to speak of this winter again. I just hope the spring and summer rains come this year for once. Stay warm!

    Brad,
Hmm, I’m just trying to figure out the initiation rites for a beginning cattleman, I used to know the secret ceremony but have plain done forgot, it’ll come to me one of these days! But one bit of advice, (it’s free), from a person that raises more cattle than chickens and we raise quite a few chickens, the word is “corral”. Yup, simple word but probably the most important word anyone raising cattle should know. Beats the heck out of “catching” them with a 30.06 beleive me :) But reading your comment warms my heart, knowing you already recognized the importance of that word! Plus now we can talk cattleman to cattleman! A whole new ballgame coming up!
Oh, now I don’t know how this was taken by all the good folks out there but I “did” write the post while in a good mood. If only folks could of seen me sometimes in the past, hammering at the keyboard ready to storm hell. There’ve been those kind of moments believe me :) But I’m still in a mellow mood which helps as I get ready for taxes Friday. Do my duty, grrr, with a smile :) But give unto Ceasar you know.
And your last statement about being truely rich, well I can’t improve on that! Abundant blessings overflowing, Praise God!

Oh, I almost forgot, to the lurker from the FDA, “How’s it going!” I hope the weather is fine where you are, kid’s doing OK? Great! Have a good one!
