Tis the Season

December 21st, 2007 by Northern Farmer

I guess we’re on the final drag coming into Christmas. All is well, the busy week is done and over with although I sure wish the church services were still going, but more on that in a bit. It’s a dreary type of a day and evening here, kinda foggy, a bit of rain that might turn to freezing rain or snow, whatever. No big deal one way or another. Life is much easier with those bigger calves gone now, much easier. The place isn’t plugged up with cattle anymore and chores got much simpler having that batch finally gone.

And as we come on down to the wire with Christmas approaching traditionally the blog slows way down. Well, folks have stuff to do, and so do I. This Christmas will be a tad bit different with the calves gone a month earlier than normal and such a reduced workload around the place. It might be the first Christmas in years where I ain’t over loaded with winter type chores. Christmas Eve we’ll be having a special service at our little church in the late afternoon, early evening which should be just down right nice. Then that’s about it for the week at church, (I think).

But after this past week’s services I’m just kinda in a daze over it all. Because the Power of God can and does move out here in the countryside. I mentioned before that evangelist J.C. Smith was going to be doing services at our little church two evenings this past week and let me tell you straight out that those services were something else! You know, if people want a church to take off just start preaching the Blood of Jesus! There’s power in the blood as the old songs say, wonder working power! And sadly so many church’s don’t preach it anymore. It used to be preached as the main thing, used to I said, but I guess it’s not what people want to hear nowadays.

I can testify that when the Blood is preached and the people receive the Word things do happen and happen big! Healings take place, people are convicted and saved and the church knows what it’s all about. Lives are changed, forever! This Christmas season around here there’s a different attitude about the whole thing. It’s remembering the reason why Christ was born into this world. Forget the materialism, forget the traditions that were only invented the last century or so. And remember the Blood that was shed for us all. I really wonder how things would change in this society if folks would only think about that. What would happen if the season wasn’t about economic report of sales, reports that seem so important to the news casters. What if the news casters were reporting about the real reason for the season.

Very few things make me sadder than hearing professing Christians say how busy they are because of the Christmas “rush”. Basically that’s a testimony that the season is a season of self centerness and materialism. Ouch, eh! It’s so deep into this culture that it’s considered the normal way to be, even for professing Christians. But this culture is wrong, dead wrong. And the American church is way off base also. Just a mad rush worshiping their real god, materialism.

And the funny thing is, if I write something like this, folks don’t like it all too much. But it’s true never the less. I could be called a Scrooge, but I’m not. I’m looking at reality, plain and simple. So many folks figure they want the simple life, well here’s the test. Can they get through this season without following the lemmings? Now I’m not saying not having Christmas, or presents, or holiday cheer. I’m just saying are they going to let the modern day Christmas of materialism worship dominate their family’s life! Because if people can’t control something so simple in their lives how can they control the more complex problems in this society today? Food for thought.

As the dust settles around here after this week of hard hitting church services I’ll be thinking about blogging about them. About the Power of God moving in a little country church. Through a powerful preacher, through a hungry group of believers. To me that set the stage for the greatest Christmas ever around this farm.

We went to do a bit of shopping in the “big city” about 30 miles from us. It was Monday so I didn’t expect to many people out and about but there were quite a few. Almost everyone of them stressed and crabby. Pushing their carts past people, grumbling and grumping. My husband and I were enjoying our time together, laughing, even singing carols softly as we shopped. People looked at us like we were insane. My question is…If this is supposed to be the season of “magic “like all thoses advertisements say, why are people so unhappy? Even the people we know say they are SO busy trying to get “it” all done by Christmas. I think you are right.. Boy have they all missed it.

    Patti,

Makes a person wonder eh! Now I wonder how did people get themselves into such a mess. Take something as simple as Christmas and make it into a stressed out time, a major burden financially also to so many, a time of misery. Because what you witnessed was misery, nothing less. These ain’t people looking for the next bite to eat, or where they can get clothing to stay warm, its the most classic example of what I call lemmings that a person can come across.
This was really, really good! B U S Y ! Burdened Under Satan’s Yoke. That was hitting the nail on the head! And that’s what I believe the huge majority of Christian Christmas shoppers are under, satan’s yoke. And they don’t even know it ! A burden put on them in the name of this modern living. If people even had a hint of how much they’ve lost….

God Bless and You and Your Husband Have a Merry Christmas!
