Some Cold Saturday Preaching
January 19th, 2008 by Northern FarmerIt’s a cold one in these parts the last few days, sounds like a few more to go but there is a light at the end of the tunnel on the ten day forecast. Yesterday was a rough one with the wind howling along with sub zero temperatures. That was truly the first time this season that I got cold, I mean there was just no way to stay warm except head for cover every once in a while. Down right brutal outside yesterday!
I hear from here and there that folks are starting to talk recession. Both at the state and the national level. That’s news to me, heck we’ve been in a depression here the last couple of drought years. I mean we gotta be careful, no mistakes allowed. I was just going through the local paper, the free one we get in these parts, looking for hay. Placed a couple of calls, just got answering machines, but you never know what’ll pop up. I can’t wait for this season to be done with I tell you. A long ordeal to say the least. I wonder what its like to have green grass, nice crops, enough to supply our selves. But getting back to this recession talk, I don’t think we’ve even seen the tip of the iceberg on what’s coming. The other day I was in town and I got a big city paper, (for free), at the gas station and the front page was about all the lay offs happening around here right now. And this isn’t even talking about the “housing industry”, just regular jobs. Lookin mighty shaky!
Plus, in my lifetime I don’t think there’s ever been a time of more uncertainty. In this crazy world does any one ever figure it will really work out OK with man’s efforts? I don’t know, no matter which way I look at it, there’s no way it’ll improve the way society is heading now. Some folks still figure this is a Christian nation, but I beg to differ, there’s much fewer Christians than folks figure. I ain’t talking about church membership or anything like that. I mean folks that really walk the walk. Who stand up for what they believe in, who are not afraid to offend the masses. Very few folks out there. What ever happened to preachers that would stand up and condemn sin in society. Now it ain’t proper to do that. Might offend someone, even in the congregation. If a person reads the Bible even a little bit they’ll soon discover that Jesus offended many, many folks. The world hated Him. And if we say we’re Christians why is it that the world gets along with us?
What are we doing that we blend into this hell bound society so well? They always say that we are to be Christ like and allot of folks figure that means being all meek and never offending anyone. And nothing could be further from the truth. Because if we ain’t offending sin we are in sin! Just look! This nation that so many call a Christian nation is the leader in the world for the most diabolical acts that there are. Abortions, homosexuals marching doing perverted acts anywhere they darn well please and are even endorsed and called good by so many that call themselves Christian. Unlimited pornography and a recent article I read said that they figure %75 of American preachers are addicted to it on the internet. Nope, there’s no other nation on earth that is so against God’s will as this one. And the church sleeps.
So what’s a person supposed to do in this day and time? Well, it don’t hurt to repent! To turn from those devilish ways. You know, it always makes me sad, a person can be in church on Sunday morning and when church is over people rush back to their homes and sit their butts down in front of the hellevision and everything that was preached, (that’s asuming the Word is preached in church), is destroyed by letting the devil right into our living rooms, everything. Hurry home to put on that big game and basically its just filth on the commercials. The shows on TV are almost all filth, with the only reason that they’re made is to destroy the Christian family. But the people lap it up, hungry for sin.
Where are the Christians spreading the Gospel, where? I don’t see very many around our area. There ain’t no body that ever comes here except for some Jehovah’s Witnesses, and that’s always fun because I can out preach them! It’s always easy to destroy man-made doctrine. Churches every where around here and I can honestly say that this is not a Christian area. How a person lives their lives is a testament to their beliefs, and it ain’t good around here. Try bring up the Bible to the majority of “Christians” and I can assure you, they don’t want to talk about it. The saddest are those who will just say that they have their religion, they have their church and that’s good enough for them and anybody that goes around talkin the Bible is some sort of nut. Well, then I’m a nut. So is this family.
Sin is sin, hell is forever, Jesus died for us and not one of us is worthy of the gift He died for. Sin is death, why isn’t it hardly preached no more? Want to offend someone? Just preach against sin and rest assured there is nothing that makes people madder than that! Because it exposes ourselves and people don’t want to be exposed! I’ll take that old fashioned religion any day, where the truth is preached not this watered down garbage that is the norm today. A garbage that leads a whole society to destruction.
Whew, I got off track today, well maybe I got on track. Sometimes I can’t help myself, I just gotta preach the truth. I suppose the comments will be basically silent as has been the norm lately, but that’s OK cause I’ll not water down anything around here. Rest assured of that. I love the Gospel and I can’t even imagine how we could get along out here with out it! It’d be living death without it.
