Den of Vipers and Thieves

September 29th, 2008 by Northern Farmer

“You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out.”

Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, who said these fiery words to a delegation of bankers in 1832:

“Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time, and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out.”

I just came in for some supper after working out in the pastures and meadows all day, cool and windy out, and I heard the latest news about the “get richer” package for the bankers and Wall Street. I was thinking what could I even write that would go with today’s events and I came across this quote by Andy Jackson. Now I’m telling you, this is my kinda quote! That’s what’s needed in this country today, some folks that ain’t scared to offend someone and just belt out the truth! Times haven’t changed, greed still rules in the banking industry. And as always they want the regular working families to make them richer. You know, money don’t just vanish, somebody got it, and those somebodies want a whole lot more from the regular folk that have a whole lot less!

I’m a little hot under the collar about all of this but I feel a whole lot better after stumbling across that Andy Jackson quote. At least I ain’t alone.

Tom, I have always heard that history repeats itself, maybe this time society will learn who to trust in - Our Lord!!! I am working on a lesson for Wednesday night bible class. God Bless - Tim

    Tim,
I get a funny feeling there’s going to be allot of repeating of history coming up. One thing that struck me about that quote I put on here was how the bankers were openly rebuked, rebuked by a president that put more stock in God then in bankers and their money and influence. Something that’s badly needed today to say the least.
I was going to write a bit last evening then as things happened I wasn’t home, so I will put off that for a very short while. In fact I was going to write tonight but that quote just jumped out at me while checking the news on the computer, something I very rarely do, but I guess that quote was just waiting to be put on this old blog :)
I gotta get some stuff ready for Wednesday evening also. Not much in the lesson department on the first Wednesday of the month, just some rapid Bible drills and some games for the kids. Then back to regular Children’s Church every Wednesday after that for the month. God Bless!

    Hey Tom,

It’s not just the bankers and Wall Street. It’s the congress and senate and Janet Reno also. They threatened the bankers to make those bad loans or else the bankers would be called racists and Reno would use the full power of her office to punish them. Obama and his politcal people in Chicago also were on the bad loan band wagon threatening to call the bankers racist if loans were not given to people who couldn’t pay them back.

I’m self employed, and am only able to pay myslef below the poverty level but I still pay taxes everywhere I go. I can’t afford a house or even an apartment yet now I’m supposed to be taxed more to buy the bad loans of welfare adicts, irresponsible fools and “illegal aliens” who got home loans without any Social Security number, proof of income or legal ID.

The people involved got rich, some in the tens of millions and now they will get richer and I will continue to sleep on a couch in a machine shop with the cock roaches and rats while I pay more taxes to support thieves in Washington, New York and illegals from around the world.

They think they got away with something but life is short and all men die and then we meet our maker. We all will give account for the sins we have commited. None of us will get away with anything. And God will repay that which the locusts have eaten, to those who trust in the blood of Jesus Christ and the Fathers mercy.

hey you prefaced this post with the one before. Andy Jackson probably quoted the scripture to them -1 tim 6:7-8, (while yelling)…thats how i picture it anyway), and they, just like today, sitting there with a confused look on their faces.

    Don,
To be honest I never kept up with the particulars of all of this but now since it’s been the big story I come across everything that you stated. Kinda burns my hide but that’s nothing new. I really wonder how folks can live life just stealing from every one else and not think nothing of it? Oh well, like you said, we’ll all answer for everything we do. I ain’t nothing special but sure do hate seeing everything going down the tubes and folks calling the system good. Its not good and that’s all there is to it. Best I can do is trust in the Lord and do what’s right and keep on keepin on!

    Paul,
I don’t have time to look up any Bible verses tonight, been busy moving cattle from the far pasture to home today, pretty bushed out. But I know the book of Psalms is loaded with this very thing, the rich stealing from the poor and the judgment that comes to those who pillage the poor. And the promises for those who stay on the straight and narrow. Interesting though reading of folks so desperate to keep this filthy system going the way it is. The first thing I thought last evening when I came across that Andy Jackson quote was I wished I was there to see that!!There ain’t nothing wrong with putting it right in the face of folks like that, Jesus did and He never sinned doing it either! But the world hates the truth and there ain’t no getting around that!

I loved your last two posts. I agree, it’s like we’re sitting out on your porch just talking.

God bless Andrew Jackson! What we wouldn’t give for that kind of straight talk today, huh?

How’s your back after the roofing? All better now?

Blessings to your and your family.

    Hi Deb,

These last few posts were very enjoyable to write for me. Came easy. And I hope to continue this evening if possible. That Jackson quote really made me wish for a few folks to get the guts again and do what’s right in this day and age. Its amazing how some get so riled up when the truth is put in front of their face. Many today do not want any truth at all, just want to follow the system blindly and get all mad and nuts when a person mentions anything to the contrary. But that’s their problem.
Back got all recovered in a few days along with a multitude of other sore muscles. All is well :) God Bless!
