Gone
October 7th, 2008 by Northern FarmerTuesday evening and I am just a little bit on the shot side tonight. Cutting wood all day, or most of the day between different chores that pop up here and there. It was raining in the morning and I just worked outside right through it to get er done and out of the way. Wasn’t too bad all in all. Got wet, but it wasn’t too uncomfortable. I just like making wood though. I wish I could do it more often and not have so many other things to do at the same time. And the very honest, tired feeling a person has in the evening after a day of making firewood is kind of enjoyable. Nothing wrong with a tired out body I always say. Might be one of the problems of today, folks ain’t tired enough in their bodies. Just get wore out in their minds. And as far as making firewood goes, we’ll switch to the tractor buzz saw rig as soon as I have some help around here which don’t look to promising for a bit, but until then I’ll just work away with the chainsaw here and there. that job is enjoyable cause I can and do think about other things the whole time I’m working. Its to wet to do anything in the gardens and I don’t see that improving much for a day or two at least. Gotta dig them spuds one of these day and collect anything that needs collecting in the gardens before the weather turns bitter. A couple of years ago we had a hard, hard freeze in later October that ruined the spuds that weren’t dug yet. I don’t want that to happen again if I can help it.
Oh Lord, I do enjoy this time of the year! Cutting wood today about the only thing on my mind was some of the old ways that the oldtimers had as far as faith goes. That has to be one of my favorite subjects. It interested me thirty years ago and it interests me more now than ever. I used to read about faith healing, about getting the Holy Ghost in little rural churches. I used to read about folks that got so converted that it just blew everyone else away. I love those old stories yes I do! I love the old songs them little congregations would sing, I love reading about how they would pray through with an honesty that’s rarely seen today. Of all the things that I ever think about, this is and always will be one of my favorites. It is kinda hard getting allot of information on this subject just because it took place in forgotten rural areas and it never made much news to more sophisticated folks in the cities. I love reading about Holy Ghost meetings where the church was literally rocking back and forth and folks that where scared to go to them old Holiness meetings would get terrified when they seen the power of God laying hold of those little congregations. And I want what those old Holiness folks had!
And I do think it can be had! I really do. There’s so much religion holding things back though, even in the Charismatic church, that its durn rare there’s a real move of God like back in those days. I think the Charismatic church has gotten to sophisticated, lost the simpleness that those folks of old had. I think there’s way to much of one foot in the world and one foot trying to stand on the church. And it doesn’t work in the least. Folks get that one foot in the world and the other foot will follow right along. Can’t serve two masters and the world wins and there’s nothing but a regular church service with folks wondering how to get closer to God, but not ready to let go of the world for anything. So then in order to compromise with the worldly way a religion develops that says God wants me rich. God wants me to have stuff. God is there to supply me with all I ever desired if I have faith. And if I don’t get it that means my faith ain’t strong enough yet. That’s a lie from the pits of hell itself!
Them oldtimers that had the faith didn’t have the worldly distractions so they didn’t have to develop a dead religion to make things go easier on them. They had the real thing! They didn’t need every new toy that came out on the market, and they didn’t have hellivision to keep them in the world. This might make me seem lunatic, but there is no excuse for any Christian to watch TV, none. Sports, news, nothing. I always wonder about Christians that are watching the big games and the commercials are totally from hell itself and they see not a darn thing wrong with allowing satan right into their homes and giving him full authority in their lives. And what’s disturbing is that its sucked in most preachers, and they wonder why the ineffective ministries and luke warm churches. No exceptions either. “Oh Tom, it ain’t that bad, we don’t watch anything bad, well, not to often anyhow”. That’s a lie, short and sweet. Nothing but a lie.
So we allow satan full rights to ourselves and our families and wonder why nothing happens spiritually like years ago when folks lived for God. But the new religion says that we should have all of this stuff. The new religion is a lie and nothing short of it. One foot in the world is both feet. They can have their dead religion with maybe an occasional tickling of the Holy Ghost. Nope, I want the full deal! I want God, not the world! I want the Holy Ghost to rule, to take over, to heal and to lead the way! I want God, not this miserable mess, this weak faith, this entertainment oriented religion that helps us feel better about ourselves or at least says it does.
In almost every account that I’ve read it seems God left when television came into play. Gone were the days of miracles and healings, gone was simple faith that could move mountains, gone. Then it just became “church”.

yeah i read that if missionaries can beat television to the remote tribes then they got a fighting chance, but if tv is already there, forget it. i dont remember where i read that but i can see it happening to a degree anyway

Paul,
I can see that happening too. This is just one of those plain truths that can put me in a very unpopular spot just mentioning it, but its the absolute truth none the less. And its infiltrated the homes of most folks that follow Jesus and it eats at the family like a cancer. I’ve said it many, many times before but if a person from 50 years ago would see what’s in the living rooms of modern day Christians, or in the churches for that matter, they would be totally shocked. What always gets to me is when churches proclaim their paganism and have a Super Bowl party at church, watching the game and loving the pagan commercials, I just shake my head and want to cry at the pure paganism of the modern church.

Tom,
Great rant!!! Love it!!
One caveat if you will, we must be carefull not to legislate or force this truth on people. You see I have first hand knowledge of this. I was ’saved’, ordained and lived and breathed UPCI. (United Pentecostal Church International) We are the ones who say ladies cannot wear pants, makeup, jewelry or cut their hair. Also men were prevented from wearing shorts, rings and no tv’s. And the thing is as ministers you have to sign a card or confession that you did not have one in your home. The crazy thing is you would have “monitors” and a vcr but only christian videos etc. Also computers with internet access was ok as long as you had filtering software or a filtered service. Crazy…
I have met some of the most judgmental, mean-spirited, selfish and hatefull people in these churches. It is not a matter of outside holiness but the inward man.
I agree with you 100% about the evils of the ‘tube’ but take the stance that when we get the vessels right, (us), He will so consume and dominate that TRUE Holy Spirit conviction and the reverent Fear Of The Lord will be the end result. This will only be accomplished by a true dieing to self along with the revelation that God will provide of Himself. When this is revealed to us we will be nothing. Right now I can say that I desire His glory alone but….
Oh Tom, I guess what I am striving for, looking for, believing for is my Damascus road, my Ezekiel’s wheel, Daniel’s vision, Isaiah’s ‘Year that King Uzziah died’ etc etc etc.
Anyway God Bless You my brother. Keep the faith and keep the fire and brimstone coming!!

Hey Brian!
I absolutely agree with you, 100%. I don’t know how much you’ve ever read in the past here but I certainly am not one for legalism, which always fails. I’ll say you just added allot of worthwhile stuff to what I already had written here and I certainly agree and appreciate it! If this came across like supporting legalism I will say here and now it wasn’t written that way or with that intent.
And thanks for stopping by here! I gotta run, gotta get myself cleaned up and ready for Wednesday evening services.
God Bless!

Tom,
Maybe people will start to wake up as our economy takes a dive. Yesterday I ordered some pullet chicks so that we will have a set of hens that will start laying next spring. Most of the breeds of chicks were sold out. I couldn’t get the breeds that my youngest son wanted. The person who I talked to from the hatchery said that the demand for chicks was unusually high and that she had never seen anything like this. So maybe, just maybe our country will be forced to turn from materialism.

Jim,
There’ll be allot of waking up in allot of folks. But sadly not all of them by a long shot. I can feel the mood and there sure is a worship of government and of society out there to solve all the problems. A false sense of security in political parties and political figures. And always to an extreme. Folks will give up the majority of their freedoms if they figure they’ll be secure with their pensions and jobs and such. Makes me downright sick in the gut.
I’ve notice what you mentioned with the availability of chickens too, among other things that are selling out or sold out. There are folks that are listening to God’s voice and doing something about it for their families instead of trusting in socialism in order to keep their religion, materialism, functional. These are the times we live in.
